BETTER THAN LITEMANAGER TRIAL

If not, you could look into a monthly subscription that they would hopefully reimburse you for, or maybe a trial to test it out for now to see if it's a viable method.ĭoes your company have an IT department? Hopefully they can get you setup on a VPN to access the servers from offsite if possible.

BETTER THAN LITEMANAGER INSTALL

Hopefully your company can provide a copy of the program to install on your PC. If so you would need IDML files to open the newer files on older versions of InDesign. Just make sure your InDesign version is updated enough where you won't have any version control issues.

BETTER THAN LITEMANAGER PC

If you have a computer at home that can utilize InDesign, then sure that's probably easier than trying to use a program like LiteManager or TeamViewer to control your PC at work. Seems like I'll be working from home for awhile. I recently bought a long ethernet cable so I could have a wired connection, making my download and upload speed better compared to wifi previously. Then I make a backup on my local laptop, make changes, and back the files up to the server making sure to keep old versions of the files in case needed to go back. I have a VPN setup to access the servers at our office to pull files from. Personally I have a work laptop with the Adobe suite. And given the whole ethical desire for a separation between advertising and the actual newsroom, I don't know a lot about how these systems work together, but I'm sure plenty of people in management do know how it all works. I really don't know how all these systems would work if I were using a newer version of InDesign on my home computer and then prepress picked them up with an older version at work.

Prepress also handles putting ads onto the pages before I open them.ģ) Sometimes full ads with their graphics will appear on the pages when I open them, sometimes they've got placeholder objects on the page for where an ad will be (it's a little haphazard and phonecalls clarifying ads getting nixed or moved elsewhere aren't uncommon during the evening) or a combination of the two. How are your ads coming into your system? How are pages getting sent to press? Can you mock up the pages without ads and then send them in to someone in the office to fill in the blanks?ġ) I've got no idea how ads come into the system.Ģ) Once I fill a page with content, I mark them as complete and someone in our prepress department takes care of the whole "sending pages to press" process. I know that when I open pages in InDesign, I get a message warning me that I don't have that plugin set up, but I've long since set my preferences to stop sending me that message and have put pages together just fine for 3+ years. Our ad services department uses something called "brainworks" that I've never directly interacted with and don't know how it functions. Would installing InDesign on my home computer and then downloading the pages and content to my machine be faster than using remote desktop software? What kind of InDesign remote workflows to people here have experience with?ĮDIT: Wow this thread blew up! Really happy to see all the responses but sorry if I have trouble responding to everything accurately as I juggle multiple threads on sometimes overlapping topics.ĭo you have any ad plugins that work with InDesign to be wary of (CCI, DTI, etc)? (One of my coworkers with experience working remotely said it takes about twice as long to get things done). which as far as I can tell is going to result in significant latency for every action I perform and slow my workflow to a crawl. But given the COVID-19 nastiness, it's sounding more and more like I'll be working from home soon.Ĭurrently, the plan to get this done is to access my computer at work with my home computer using a program called LiteManager. This is done by arriving at a physical location and working at a computer with InDesign that has a connection to a local network and online services where I access all the content (photos, articles, ads, etc.) including the actual pages.
